JUNE KEY POINTS


QUARTERLY ESTIMATES
  • In June quarter 2015, there were 59 disputes, 13 more than in March quarter 2015.
  • The number of employees involved in industrial disputes in June quarter 2015 was 19,100, an increase from 14,600 in March quarter 2015.
  • There were 14,800 working days lost due to industrial disputation in June quarter 2015, a decrease from 20,400 in March quarter 2015.
  • Queensland (6,100) had the highest number of working days lost of any state or territory in June quarter 2015, accounting for 41% of total working days lost. The Australian Capital Territory had the highest number of working days lost per thousand employees (3.4) for the quarter.


YEAR ENDED ESTIMATES
  • During the year ended June 2015, there were 202 disputes, six fewer than the year ended June 2014.
  • Over the same period, there were 76,800 working days lost, 14% fewer than in the year ended June 2014 (88,900).

REVIEW OF INDUSTRIAL DISPUTES STATISTICS

The ABS released the Outcomes from the review of Industrial Disputes statistics and the planned next steps on the ABS website on 11 June 2015. The key outcome was that the ABS will continue with a timely quarterly series but extend the scope to all stoppages and coverage to work bans. The current quarterly collection is scheduled to continue until the December quarter 2016 issue to be released in early March 2017. The first quarterly release on the new basis is scheduled for implementation with the March quarter 2017 issue to be released in early July 2017.
